By James BrownBy James BrownThe Sydney Morning Herald, January 31, 2020:In the past year, Fox Sports has shown its support for the Olympic Games with a full-page ad in newspapers across the world, featuring the headline: “The Olympic Games are worth the money”.
And now the broadcaster has gone further, with an online video which includes a statement from the Olympic Committee’s CEO, John Coates, and a video of the IOC President, Jacques Rogge, welcoming the Rio 2016 athletes to the city of Sydney.
The full-screen ad features a video from Coates in which he says the 2020 Olympic Games “will be a momentous moment in the history of the world”.
The IOC statement was written by the president of the United States, Donald Trump, as well as the US President, Joe Biden.
It also said the event will have “unprecedented” impact in “building the future of sport in the United Kingdom”.
The ad was published on the Olympic website on Friday afternoon.
The video is a statement in which Coates says the Games will “provide the greatest sporting spectacle in the world for many years to come”.
It says the “biggest and most anticipated sporting event of the century will be the opening ceremony of the Olympics, the first sporting event to be staged in the Olympic Stadium”.
“We can see from the past few years that this will be an unprecedented sporting event, and it will be seen by millions across the globe,” he said.
“This event is the first time the Games have been hosted by a city, which will provide a global platform for sport and the development of the next generation of athletes and spectators.”
The IOC is hoping that, by putting the Games in Australia, the games will become the “first truly global sporting event”, with thousands of athletes from all over the world coming together to see the athletes in the venues.
The 2020 Games are expected to attract more than $5 billion in ticket sales, more than double the amount raised for the 2020 Beijing Games, the second largest event in the Olympics.
“We believe that it is the perfect time for the Olympics to be held in Australia,” Coates said in a statement.
“This will allow the world to see these great sporting events from a global perspective and will create a unique platform for the future development of sport.”
Australia is already home to the 2022 Games and the 2020 games are set to be played in Sydney and Melbourne.
The IOC said it would work with Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) and local authorities to ensure that the games would be the best possible venue for the event.
