Posted March 03, 2020 06:13:23American President Donald Trump and Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto are the most popular presidents in the world, according to new polling data released by the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research.
Both presidents were popular in their first months in office, according the AP-NORF survey of 1,003 people, which included more than 3,000 in the U.S. and 5,000 overseas.
Trump was also a popular president with a larger percentage of Americans than Pena and the combined numbers of people who thought he was a good leader, said the AP data.
The results show Trump’s approval rating at 62 percent and Pena’s at 62.5 percent.
Trump’s popularity is a big part of his popularity among Latinos and white voters, the AP poll showed.
Trump was also popular with Hispanics, who are about four times as likely as whites to approve of the job he is doing, the poll showed, but with less than half of Hispanics and white Americans saying they approve of Trump.
Trump also was popular with younger voters.
The AP-NORC poll showed that 57 percent of voters between the ages of 18 and 29 said they had a favorable opinion of Trump, compared to 43 percent who had a negative opinion.
More:The AP-numbers showed Trump was more popular with voters under 30 than he was among older voters, who gave him a slightly higher approval rating.
The poll also showed Trump with a higher percentage of Hispanics than Penas approval rating, with 62 percent of Hispanics approving of the president while 54 percent of whites said the same.
Trump, who will be inaugurated as president on Jan. 20, has faced a surge in support for his presidency, particularly among Hispanics, with more than two-thirds of them saying they are or leaning toward voting for him in November, the latest AP-NBC News poll showed in February.
Trump’s popularity among whites is also up, with 63 percent of white Americans supporting Trump.
